Visited this gem today for lunch. I always pass by it on my way to work, but I had to finally try it for myself and I'm so glad I did! For starters, I love that the restaurant has a lot of windows that let natural light in! So much better than the typical florescent lighting of many spots downtown.
I checked out their menu online before I stepped foot inside (and I totally recommend you do as well). They have a large menu with a variety of soups, rice platters, spring rolls and banh mi. If you're anything like me, which is indecisive and typically picky, large menus intimidate you. But Pho Tau Bay has great descriptions on their online and in-house menus. So don't fret, they've got you covered. Now on to what I chose to order!
I got the Pho Ga, which is Vietnamese Chicken Noodle Soup. It came in a huge bowl and it was the tastiest! The soup was served with a basket of fresh herbs, crispy bean sprouts, lime and sliced hot peppers to top it with. On the side I got some eggrolls, which come in servings of 2 or 4. Let me tell you, their eggrolls are good! Take my word for it, I'm an eggroll connoisseur of sorts. (My holy grail of eggrolls is from Chinese Kitchen. If you know, you know.) I also indulged in a Café Sua Nong, which is espresso black coffee with condensed milk served hot. This wasn't as hot in temperature as I would have liked, moreso lukewarm, but the taste was great and I'm pretty sure I'm addicted.
Overall, I love this spot! If you work downtown or near the CBD, this is a great lunch spot that you may want to try. My only regret is being too full to try something out of their dessert case. They have macarons, slices of various cakes such as carrot and chocolate and flan! And if my review doesn't sway you, Mr. Emeril Lagasse himself says that this is his favorite Vietnamese spot in the city! With our large Vietnamese population in NOLA, their food and culture adds something great that goes hand-in-hand with the "Melting Pot" aspect of our city. Places like this fully embody it! -

First off, the service and workers were good.
But the food was a joke! Even the worker agreed with me. No Vietnamese authenticity at all. The pho dac biet (combo beef pho) was straight up water with powdered beef broth and salt. No beef bone or anything flavorful at all. They only had sriracha and hoison for seasoning as well.
The bahn mi cha chien was grocery store bought old French bread with fake pork and regular mayo. It's supposed to have hot pepper too but there was none.
Being Asian and having eaten pho and bahn mi my whole life this was by far the worst pho and bahn mi ever. -

This hit the spot for me when craving Vietnamese food! This place was on the westbank previously and having grown up on the westbank, my grandparents would always take my cousins and I here to eat. It's a nostalgic feeling and the food is comforting!
My cousin always gets the Pho Dac Biet and I got the Bun bo hue today and the spices really hit the spot! -

Omg, what a gem! I had the shrimp spring rolls and the pork chop plate and it was heaven. I live how seasoned everything is from the sauces to the accoutrements to the main dishes. Also the service was absolutely outstanding and quick. I will definitely return!

This is a great spot to grab some quick authentic Vietnamese food. We were visiting New Orleans and were starting to get sick of Cajun/creole food, and wanted something different.
I ordered the chicken spring rolls which were decent. They were definitely on the smaller side and could've used more chicken. I also ordered the pho dac biet (beef combo). The regular portion was perfect and the broth good. There was plenty of meat in it. I wish they had more condiments available for use because I tend to season my pho with more than just sriracha and hoisin sauce. We asked for hot chili oil and it was happily brought out to us.
The workers are so friendly and the food comes out rather quickly. Everything was a little on the pricier side for Vietnamese food I'm used too, but overall we had a good experience.
